virtual therapy for Black Mountain, NC
Black Mountain has a big arts scene and not a lot of mental health providers. If you've been looking for a therapist who specializes in trauma, anxiety, burnout, or neurodivergent care, the options are thin — and the commute into Asheville adds friction to an already hard thing to start.
Virtual therapy removes that barrier. I'm Lindsey Smith, a licensed therapist in Asheville seeing clients throughout NC — including Black Mountain and Swannanoa.
what I work with
My practice is trauma-informed — I work with how past experiences shape present-day patterns, whether or not what you're dealing with looks like "capital-T trauma."
trauma & EMDR
EMDR is one of the most effective evidence-based treatments for trauma. I offer both 50-minute and extended 80-minute EMDR sessions.
anxiety
Chronic worry, high-functioning anxiety, the kind that runs underneath everything even when life looks fine from the outside.
ADHD & neurodivergence
Affirming, informed care for adults with ADHD, autism, or who are exploring whether neurodivergence explains experiences that have never quite fit.
identity & transitions
Figuring out who you are across major life changes: relationship shifts, career transitions, identity questions that don't have easy answers.
insurance & fees
I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield NC, Aetna, MedCost, and the NC State Health Plan through a partner practice. Self-pay rates start at $150 for a 50-minute session, with pay what you can slots available — limited. All major credit cards, HSA, and FSA accepted.
Not sure if your plan covers therapy? We can figure it out together on the consultation call — it doesn't have to be another research project on your end.
a note on the community here
I work with artists, makers, educators, and folks in helping professions — people whose lives are organized around taking care of others, and who often put themselves last.
LGBTQ+ affirming care is available and part of how I work with everyone, not an add-on.
how to get started
The first step is a free 15-minute consultation — no paperwork, no pressure, just a conversation to see if it feels right.
common questions about virtual therapy for Black Mountain, NC
How does virtual therapy work if I've never tried it before?
It's a video session — usually about 50 minutes — through a HIPAA-compliant platform. You need a private space and a reliable internet connection. Most people find after the first session that it feels more natural than they expected. The therapeutic relationship translates well to video.
Does virtual therapy work as well as in-person?
For most issues — anxiety, trauma, depression, burnout — research shows virtual therapy is as effective as in-person. The therapeutic relationship is what does most of the work, and that holds on video. The main exception is if you need highly somatic trauma work, which can sometimes benefit from being in the same room.
Is Lindsey licensed to see clients in Black Mountain?
